“The Gesture And The Word” Review: A Message Of Love Through Flowers and Words

In the day to day bustle of life a gesture can means so many things. A word can be used to bring happiness or a weapon to hurt. Together they create the defining aspects of the book of one’s life. The chapters in one’s life tells the story of how they lived. Were they bold and live out loud or were they quiet only a shadow to be hardly seen. This is the beautiful statement of the short film “The Gesture And The Word”. Sometimes it is hard to find one’s footing, to be open to the prospects of happiness and love, when you can’t even see the blossoms of it within. “The Gesture And The Word” shows that if a person is able to find the courage then they will fine the flowers of love waiting for them.

“The Gesture And The Word” tells the story of Gilbert, a lonely postman who secretly recreates postcards for a woman on his mail delivery route when her boyfriend’s homemade postcards stop arriving from his travels around the world. With the help of his friend Mr. Rostalle, a blind widower and retired literary professor, Gilbert learns to open himself up to the prospect of love, and in the process of trying to bring someone else’s happiness, he discovers it for himself.

“The Gesture And The Word” is truly a remarkable film of storytelling and emotion. Filmmaker Helen Alexis Yonov paints a beautiful story of love through the language of flowers which is both subtle and beautifully simplistic. It is a wonderfully sweet film that uplifts the spirit
