The October 1st event will be followed with a live Q&A with ALPERT and the film’s director JOHN SCHEINFELD (“Chasing TRANE: The JOHN COLTRANE Documentary,” “The U.S. vs. JOHN LENNON,” “Who Is HARRY NELSON?”), moderated by GRAMMY MUSEUM Artistic Director SCOTT GOLDMAN. The movie will hit theaters, Video on Demand and be available in both DVD & Blu Ray at Amazon and other music retailers.

While younger fans may not know him by name, Alpert’s iconic feel-good trumpet playing took him to the top of the charts back in the 1960s. The idea that an instrumental act based around a trumpet could fill arenas may seem hard to believe, but that’s exactly what happened to Alpert. Yet he admits his feelings at the time were much less jovial, “I’m rich, I’m famous, but I’m miserable.”

A career-spanning HERB ALPERT Box Set will be released on OCTOBER 2nd in LP format featuring a coffee-table book and a five-piece 180-gram vinyl set, and as a three-CD set. Both physical formats will feature 63 songs spanning five decades of ALPERT’s career, 180 pages of vintage photos, liner notes and an essay from respected music journalist BUD SCOPPA.

It’s at this point that Alpert changes course from heading to the oldies bin and instead toward the history books. By taking the money he made selling records, more than The Beatles the film is sure to note, he founded A&M Records in 1962 with Jerry Moss. Over the record company’s three decades in operation, they signed such acts as The PoliceCat StevensJanet JacksonBurt BacharachThe Flying Burrito BrothersJoe CockerPeter FramptonCheech & Chong, and many more. Many of the artists show up in the documentary to sing Alpert’s praises as a record executive who defied all stereotypes. Musician/actor Billy Bob Thornton sums it up best at the end of the trailer, “Herb Alpert is butter.”

Available for streaming starting 9pm PST October 1st, with a 30-day rental viewing window.
