Heartbreaking and real.
“Last Summer”, is a beautiful achievement in craft, by writer/director Leonardo Guerra Seragnoli who endeavors to make every frame meaningful while we wind our way through the heart wrenching, emotional bondage of the loss of a child when the child is right before our eyes.
Although slow paced, the pacing serves to connect the audience with the intense frustration this mother felt, as her child must again be reborn to his mother, and she to him. Such are the horrors of child custody issues.
Plus the well-played performance by Rinko Kikuchi subtly entwines itself in the heart strings of the audience merging the audience’s own longing with the mother’s longing for the child.
“Last Summer” had its United States premiere at the 2016 Slamdance Film Festival.
