2016 Slamdance Film Review: “How To Plan An Orgy In A Small Town”

The movie could have gone so many other directions, when it took a left turn into the most delightful story.

After her mother’s death, Cassie (Jewel Staite) heads to the small town she escaped from after high school, where she expects and finds the old gang just as catty as she left them. But then the story takes a turn south and she is challenged to orchestrate an orgy by those same catty ex-friends.

At this point the film becomes hilarious.

The story is a well written quagmire of confusing relationships, covering the gamut of life situations as we know it. The ensemble cast is well directed  by writer/director Jeremy Lalonde and outrageously funny from the first orgy, where Katharine Isabelle and Jonas Chernick will leave you crying with laughter, to the naked run at the end of the film. Jewel Staite’s performance is understated and right on point! This film is wonderful.

Screened today at  The 2015 Slamdance Film Festival in Park City Utah.
