A Review of “SUMMER” A Beautifully Told Dutch Gay Teen Love Story

By: Austin Winter- Chase

Life is hard at any age, but especially when you are a teenager and you’re still trying to figure out who you are and your place in your work in this world.  For sixteen year old Anne  life is a bit more complicated.  She is a beautiful young girl who feels out of place.  Not really knowing how to fit in, but knowing all too well that she is very different.  She is the outsider looking in.  Surrounded by her friends lounging and playing during the hot summer in the remote village of the Southern Netherlands, Anne  has a sense that something is missing from her life and it isn’t until a strange beauty in the name of Lena a new girl  shows up that everything seems to fall into place or gets turned upside down. The two fall deeply for one another.  Young love is powerful and moving, but it also can be like an uncontrollable wildfire  changing everything in its wake. “Summer” is  a beautiful poem of  young love and how it has the power to change the perceptions of all around it.  Beautifully told and shot Director Colette Bothof film is bold and refreshing. “Summer”  challenges the way we look at those who are different, but most importantly that love has no  hatred. Truly a wonderful film. “Summer” is Wolfe Video’s newest film and was released on VOD October 6th.
